On Tuesday, Discord released a new tool called Family Center to make its platform more kid-friendly. This tool makes it easy for parents and guardians to monitor what their kids are doing. Discord is the best way for gamers and hobbyists of all ages to connect and talk to each other on social media. It can be used on desktop computers, smartphones, and gaming devices like Xbox and PlayStation. The new Family Center is the platform’s latest attempt to improve the platform, teach safer ways to use the internet, and make it a better place for families.
Tool for Family Center
The new Family Center on Discord is an opt-in tool that lets parents watch what their kids do on the app. It helps parents learn more about the people their kids play games with and talk to. This new feature comprises two main parts: an activity tracker and a weekly email summary with all the information about activities. The Dashboard gives parents an overview of what their child has been doing, such as how many new friends they have added, how many sites they have joined or taken part in, and how many people they have talked to or called. Parents won’t see what’s in the texts, though.
Aside from this, parents or guardians will also get an email every week with a recap of what their kids did on Discord. You can find the Family Center in your user settings, but you will need your child’s permission to use it.
In a statement about the launch of the Family Center, Discord said, “Our goal with Family Center is to help foster productive conversations about safer internet habits and to give parents and teens ways to talk about their online experiences that are good for both groups.”
What was done before
This is not the first time Discord has tried to clean up its website. In June 2022, Discord revealed AutoMod, an automatic keyword filter that helps moderators find and block harmful messages and threats in a server or text in voice messages. This means that even if the moderator isn’t there, the AutoMod tool will automatically find and stop the news. It will also alert the moderator, who can check the information when they return.
