About the Workshop

Disaster Logistics – a 2-Day Workshop on Managing Logistics for Emergency Situations provides you with logistics and supply chain planning and implementation tools for crisis events. Some people call this disaster logistics, others call it crisis supply chain management…others, unfortunately, don’t even know it exists. When an organization ‘doesn’t know what it doesn’t know’ about disaster logistics, the door is wide open for huge infrastructure dangers and even loss of life.

The military is the expert in crisis planning. All branches of the service understand the importance of planning for crisis events and then have the confidence to implement the plans with incredible success. Unfortunately though, those plans and implementation expertise typically occur for events that occur in other countries. The U.S. logistics industry spent over $1.3 trillion and accounts for approximately 9.9% of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Our country knows how to manage supply chains. It only makes sense then to converge both military and commercial logistics best practices during crisis events within the United States.

This workshop will offer ideas and tools to help your organization better understand the ‘blocking and tackling’ of logistics and supply chain planning (beyond supply and transportation). It will offer lessons learned from DoD and industry to better secure the supply chain during crises within our own borders. The workshop will also offer a logistics/supply chain risk assessment tool allowing for better risk mitigation.

The workshop experience will be enhanced with tools you will be able to use immediately on the job whether you are an experienced logistician or just beginning.

What You Will Learn:

  • Understand how DoD and Commercial logistics/supply chain processes are used together during crisis events
  • Understand how all logistics processes affect the success/failure of crisis events
  • Understand the steps involved with logistics and supply chain risk planning
  • Understand the structured, disciplined logistics and supply chain processes to plan, assess, manage and control risk
  • Understand that it takes a team approach for logistics and supply chain risk planning
  • Be prepared to make logistics outsourcing decisions
  • Bring home logistics and supply chain risk management tools to use immediately

A Homeland Defense Journal "Certificate of Completion" will be provided to all attendees upon conclusion of the workshop.

Who Should Attend:

  • Executives/Managers/Leaders responsible for organization supply chain management and logistics (Air, Road, Rail, Rivers)
