Tom McMillen has had a highly diversified and successful career in the fields of sports, business, and politics. 

He began much of his career at the University of Maryland after an illustrious high school basketball career where he was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  At Maryland, McMillen was a three-time All-American in basketball, an academic All-American, and a member of the 1972 Olympic Team. He went on to become the first and only University of Maryland student to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and later an NBA basketball player.

After an 11-year NBA career, McMillen was elected and served three consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and was named by President Clinton to co-chair the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in 1993. 

In 2002, at the 50th anniversary of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), McMillen was chosen as one of the ACC’s Top 50 players of all time.

Today, he is one of the country’s foremost homeland security entrepreneurs, heading Homeland Security Capital Corporation (www.hscapcorp.com). 

Mr. McMillen serves as a member of the University of Maryland System Board of Regents (BOR), a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Maryland College Park School of Public Affairs, the newly-formed BOR Workgroup on Campus Safety and Security, and as a member of the Executive Board of the University of Maryland College Park Center for American Politics and Citizenship.

Mr. McMillen is Chief Executive Officer of Homeland Security Capital Corporation, an international provider of specialized, technology-based radiological, nuclear, environmental, disaster relief, and security solutions to government and commercial customers. Mr. McMillen also currently serves as Vice Chairman of Fortress International Group, a mission-critical firm and the successor company to Fortress America Acquisition Corporation.

After an 11-year NBA career, McMillen was elected and served three consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and was named by President Clinton to co-chair the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in 1993. 

 Mr. McMillen received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor and Master of Arts from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.
