Inspector Daniel Cortez Inspector Cortez is a native of Texas, and a 1988 graduate of Texas A& M University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics. In 2002 he earned an MBA from Florida Metropolitan University. He has been employed with the federal government for 19 years. He began is career with Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and in 1991 joined the U. S. Postal Inspection Service. As a Postal Inspector he was initially domiciled in Beaumont, TX, and later transferred to Houston, TX. His first leadership position was in 1999 in Orlando, FL where he was assigned as a Team Leader. He was in Orlando at the time of the Anthrax mailings. As member of the leadership team in Florida he was faced with handling and managing hundreds of calls relating to suspicious powders from postal employees as well as the American public. In April 2002 he was appointed Assistant Inspector in Charge of the Los Angeles Division. He was appointed to a Postal Executive Position in September of 2004 as the Postal Inspector in Charge of the Fort Worth Division. He was responsible for the leadership and day to day operations of a workforce that included postal inspectors, postal police officers and professional, technical and administrative support personnel. The Fort Worth Division’s territory covers the northern part of Texas, and the states of New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Inspector Cortez served as incident commander for the Fort Worth Division during hurricanes Rita and Katrina. In September of 2007 Inspector Cortez transferred to National Headquarters where he currently serves as the Inspector in Charge for Homeland Security and Dangerous Mail Investigations.
