Lt. Colonel Charles E. McCrary, Sr. (retired) Lieutenant Colonel Charles E. McCrary, Sr. (retired) is the former Assistant Chief of Police for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (1992-1997). He spent 31 years in St. Louis Law Enforcement with command positions in juvenile, criminal investigations, drug enforcement, vice, homicide and sex crimes, and top level administration. His 31 year career led him experientially from a police rookie to a seasoned, professional law enforcement executive. Following his retirement from the St. Louis Police Department, Lt. Col. McCrary served as Director of Safety and Security for the St. Louis Public Schools. He was appointed by the St. Louis Public Schools’ Superintendent in 1997 following his retirement. He retired from the St. Louis Public Schools in July of 2006 after nine successful years as the Director of Safety and Security. As Director of Safety and Security for the St. Louis Public Schools, Lt. Col. McCrary immediately established safety policies and programs to implement the highest quality school safety systems and school safety officers. His quality performance goals included: to build strong team relations between school safety officers, students, school officials and administrators; to increase the efficiency and service in school safety systems; and to add meritorious competition among safety officers and the schools by giving award incentives to safety officers who achieve the highest safety standard. Lt. Col. McCrary now serves as owner and president of his own consulting firm, McCrary Security Consultants, Inc. based in Florissant, MO. He performs all security-related consulting projects alone and is assisted as needed with organizational development tasks and projects by team member Julie Hickman, a former Fortune 500 Training Manager with a Masters Degree in Human Resources. Lt. Colonel McCrary’s company owns the Registered Trademark – B.O.S.S. Force® which stands for the Blueprint of School Security. Lt. Colonel McCrary has overseen the research, identification and validation of a number of “School Security Operational Practices” for security directors to consider as they begin to shape and establish a successful and flexible school district security program. His company owns the copyright to the B.O.S.S. Force® Workshop titled: “Pulling the Pieces Together”; a professionally facilitated best school security practice workshop. He received a B.S. Degree Urban Affairs and Criminal Justice from St. Louis University and is a graduate of FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He is author of a newly released book titled Urban School Security from Behind the Scenes: Views from a Retired Urban School Security Director. |
