Commander William Carney
Deputy Chief Technology Officer CDR Carney was born and raised in New York City and graduated from Jacksonville University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984. He is currently serving as the Deputy Chief Technology Officer for Navy Reserve Forces Command, responsible for the IT infrastructure that supports over 80,000 personnel. Prior to coming to the Headquarters Staff in New Orleans, CDR Carney was the Commanding Officer, Navy Operational Support Center Pensacola. Other shore tours include: Head of Homeland Security, Surface Programs Readiness, and Training Policy on the Staff of the Director of Naval Reserve in Washington D.C; Commanding Officer, Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center Tallahassee; Naval Post Graduate School, graduating with an Masters of Science in Information Systems; Instructor of Chemical, Biological and Radiological Warfare at Surface Warfare Officers Schools Command in Newport, RI.; and following Desert Storm, CDR Carney was assigned as the Naval Liaison Officer to the American Embassy, United Arab Emirates. CDR Carney’s sea tours included: Main Propulsion Assistant onboard USS JOHN F KENNEDY (CV 67); Operations Officer onboard USS SHENANDOAH (AD 44); First Lieutenant onboard USS JOHN F KENNEDY (CV 67); and Weapons Officer, Auxiliaries Officer, MPA and Chief Engineer onboard USS EDWARD MCDONNELL (FF 1043). CDR Carney’s personal awards include 2 Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals and 2 Navy Achievement Medals. CDR Carney is married
to the former Cathleen Conte of Tallahassee FL.
