About
This Workshop
With
recent terrorist attacks in the
U.S. and abroad and the threat
of more attacks, it is possible
that terrorists could strike
a school or schools in our country. The Department of
Education issued an advisory to schools in October 2004 with
recommendations for heightening security and emergency preparedness
in light of the Beslan,
Russia, school
terror attack months earlier. In addition, the threat
of violence at schools is increasing every year. The
impact of Columbine changed the landscape of the school safety
profession forever, causing many schools to create or revisit
their security and emergency plan, while setting a new threshold
for best practices in school safety. You need to successfully
prepare your school and community against attacks, whether
natural or non-natural.
At
the Security for Schools
Workshop, you will learn about the latest
techniques
and technologies
for school health and safety planning, preparation, response,
wellness, and recovery. You
will be trained in the basic and advanced issues of school
and community issues in health and safety. Attendees
will leave the seminar with tools to use at their school or
affiliated school district, including administrative tools,
educational and training content for staff, parents, and students,
and assist the school in complying with federal standards.
You will have the opportunity to take the information and
implement it for your community.
What
You Will Learn
- What
is involved in creating a coordinated approach to school
health and safety
- Ensuring
that first responders are integrated into the plan from
the planning, preparation, response and recovery standpoints
- The
use and abuse of technology in school health and safety
- How
to deal with disasters of a man made and natural origin
- How
to understand and plan for a quarantine situation
- The
importance of technology to enhance health and safety
A Homeland Defense Journal "Certificate of Completion"
will be provided to all attendees upon conclusion of the workshop.

The
Integrated Physical Security Handbook is a manual for
commercial and government building and facility security
managers who are responsible for developing their security
plans based on estimated risks and threats -- natural
or terrorist. This book was produced under the leadership
of the Homeland Defense Journal and written by
a team of nationally recognized A&E and security
experts. This site offers a subscription to the handbook,
quarterly updates and on-line library. The cost for
subscription ranges from $99 to $149 per year. |
|
The
Integrated Physical Security Handbook is the essential
handbook for facility security managers and all managers
and supervisors tasked with the security and safety
of the buildings in which they operate and the people
with whom they work. It sets out how to manage change
and how to conduct crucial threat and risk assessments,
the basis for all integrated physical security planning.
Then, using checklists and standard practices, it provides
a hands-on, how-to guide that leads you in a user-friendly
way through all the steps and processes needed to evaluate,
design and implement an effective integrated physical
security system.
