Registration Time: 8:00 AM

About this Workshop:

While ‘Zero Tolerance’ has been all the rage, in reality it is often a reactive approach to dealing with workplace violence, frequently misunderstood by employees and difficult to implement. This workshop will teach you to go beyond ‘Zero Tolerance’ to the more innovative and proactive approach known as ‘Zero Incidents’ which focuses on preventing injuries before they occur which is the ultimate goal of any effective safety and security program. At the Managing Workplace Violence Workshop, you will learn how to implement ‘Detect, Prevent and Protect’ tools and interventions from the NIX Model for Managing Workplace Violence Prevention to create a comprehensive violence prevention program at your company.

This comprehensive workshop will help you effectively implement a Threat Management Team, create a comprehensive workplace violence prevention policy, identify the managers role in preventing and addressing hostile behavior, learn how to deal with hostile and aggressive people, domestic violence situations and much more.

You will create a comprehensive workplace violence policy (or review and update your current policy). In addition, you will create an Implementation Plan to take-home to guide you in the development or revision of your workplace violence prevention program.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to create or improve your workplace violence prevention policy and program (you will actually create a policy as part of the course)
  • How to recognize the early warning signs of potential violence and how to appropriately intervene to address them
  • How to improve employee reporting of threats and incidents
  • How to access your organization to detect problems that can contribute to creating a violence prone work environment
  • How to deal with a hostile employee and calm the person down using the Stay CalmÒ method
  • What to do if confronted with the threat of violence
  • How to create an effective workplace violence crisis response plan

A Homeland Defense Journal "Certificate of Completion" will be provided to all attendees upon conclusion of the workshop.

Who Should Attend:

  • Security professionals
  • Safety and/or Risk Management professionals
  • Federal, state and local managers with security responsibility
  • U.S. Civil agencies, government building/facilities managers, and companies with critical infrastructure to be protected
