CARVER Methodology - Target Analysis and Vulnerability Assessment
An Interactive Three-Day Workshop on Conducting Facility Vulnerability Assessments

September 8-10, 2008
Arlington, VA

Register Now! - Only 15 seats are available for each workshop!

"Great class! As often happens in a room full of senior “practitioners”, this session was also a great forum for us all to discuss how the CARVER TA/VA process is relevant to our own work. Plus, we now have a 'real-world' methodology that we can use to conduct VA’s in a very cost-effective manner. We’ll take this back and use it for a number of projects we are considering." - David L. Jones, Principal Security Specialist, Washington Safety Management Solutions

“Gary Williams is a great instructor and good facilitator of discussion.” - Randy Cole, Senior Special Agent, U.S. GAO

About this Training Workshop:

The Nation’s Critical Infrastructures face a myriad of physical and technical threats. These threats, whether natural, man-made, accidental or intentional, each carry a certain level of risk that could compromise national security, public safety, and the economy. The first step in securing Critical Infrastructures is the performance of a full spectrum Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (RVA). An RVA is an assessment of an organization’s critical assets and the consequence of their degradation, their vulnerability to exploitation, and the nature and likelihood of specific threats. The successful execution of an RVA requires highly skilled, knowledgeable, and trained personnel.

During the CARVER Methodology - Target Analysis and Vulnerability Assessment workshop, you will learn how to plan and conduct a vulnerability assessment using CARVER. The workshop reviews the basic elements of planning, executing, and reporting an RVA and countermeasure development. The Department of Defense uses CARVER as an offensive target analysis tool and it has become a very effective defensive tool for Critical Infrastructure Protection. The CARVER workshop includes a series of classroom lectures, practical exercises, and conducting an actual vulnerability assessment of a government or private sector facility.

This workshop, taught by a Risk and Vulnerability Assessment expert provides you with a proven methodology, the knowledge, and the training to conduct an assessment and secure your assets.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to plan, execute, and report a vulnerability assessment using CARVER .
  • How to analyze the results of an assessment..
  • How to determine effective countermeasures.

Please Note:

  • Dress for this 3-day workshop is casual

Why is this site here and what is this book all about? (www.physicalsecurityhandbook.com)

The Integrated Physical Security Handbook is a manual for commercial and government building and facility security managers who are responsible for developing their security plans based on estimated risks and threats -- natural or terrorist. This book was produced under the leadership of the Homeland Defense Journal and written by a team of nationally recognized A&E and security experts. This site offers a subscription to the handbook, quarterly updates and on-line library. The cost for subscription ranges from $99 to $149 per year.

The Integrated Physical Security Handbook is the essential handbook for facility security managers and all managers and supervisors tasked with the security and safety of the buildings in which they operate and the people with whom they work. It sets out how to manage change and how to conduct crucial threat and risk assessments, the basis for all integrated physical security planning.

Then, using checklists and standard practices, it provides a hands-on, how-to guide that leads you in a user-friendly way through all the steps and processes needed to evaluate, design and implement an effective integrated physical security system.
