About This Conference
Maritime security involves all activities that
aim to project our nations ports and maritime
systems. This requires monitoring of the United
States' 328 ports of entry along the 7,500 miles
of land border that the United States shares
with Canada and Mexico, as well as along the
95,000 miles coastline. Annually, 7,500 foreign
flagships make 51,000 calls in US ports.
Too much of what comes into our ports is not
examined, and we are left open to catastrophic
disasters that would paralyze our maritime
