About This Workshop
The Grants Workshop will
provide you with important information about
federal agency plans for over $3 billion in
grants to first responders for training,
communications and outfitting. Attendees will
learn where the funding is located, how to
obtain, win grants and how to survive the
audit process. The instructor will also
address such subjects as writing grants, how
grants are evaluated, key actions to undertake
while preparing for release of the grant
notice, how to prepare for the audit and
compliance checks, and resources for tracking
new grant releases.

Diana Amy Chidsey offers over
ten years of governmental research,
evaluation, program administration and
successful grant writing expertise, focusing
on the public safety sector. Mrs. Chidsey
currently shares this expertise with her
governmental and non-profit clientele,
affording them the benefit and advantage of
her knowledge in the competitive world of
grant funding.
During her tenure with the Massachusetts
Executive Office of Public Safety Programs
Division, Diana Chidsey served in the
following capacities: Acting Executive
Director, Acting Deputy Director, Director of
Research and Evaluation, Director of the
Massachusetts Statistical Analysis Center,
Director of Program Evaluation, and Research
Analyst. In addition, she also served as Chief
of Staff for the Executive Office of Public
Safety Secretariat.
Mrs. Chidsey has vast resource development
experience with a particular focus on
Department of Justice grant funding. During
her tenure with the Programs Division, she
worked diligently to prepare quality
applications for grant funding, and was
successful in securing support for initiatives
from a variety of federal agencies, including
the Departments of Justice and Homeland
Security. Her experience as a member of the
agency’s senior staff, combined with periods
of serving in top management, afforded Mrs.
Chidsey continuous opportunity to provide
fiscal and programmatic oversight of state and
federal funding. In addition to her resource
development and grant management experience,
Mrs. Chidsey also conducted numerous research
and evaluation projects, central to her role
as the Director of the Statistical Analysis
Center.
Mrs. Chidsey received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern
University and a Master of Arts degree in
Applied Sociology from the University of
Massachusetts.

This session will cover the FY05
appropriations and how these funds will likely
be administered, compared with past years.
This session is a must for anyone who is
seeking funding, whether or not they have any
grants development experience.
9:30 - 10:00am First Responder Funding
This session will illuminate the
sometimes murky process by which State
Homeland Security grants and their counterpart
Urban Areas Security Initiative grants are
being administered in 2005. The session will
also include tips for maximizing your agency's
share of these funds.
10:00-10:15am- Break
10:15 - 11:45pm Review of Funding
Streams
Some programs are open only to
specific types of agencies, others only fund
specific types of purchases. This session will
review the available funding by federal
agency, for specific first responder groups,
and identify cross-functional and
collaborative opportunities as well.
11:45– 12:45pm Lunch on
your own
12:45 - 2:45pm Making the Cases: Tips
on Writing Proposals that Win Funding
Whether you're writing a letter to
your Congressman or responding to a strictly
regimented Request for Proposals from the
National Science Foundation, your proposal
must tell a persuasive story. This session
will help you as a grantseeker to position
your project in a compelling way that will
make you more likely to get funded.

3:00- 4:00pm Wrap-up/Putting Together
a Grants Strategy that Works!
The close of the program will include
strategies for moving your grants development
goals forward. The session will include
anecdotes on what has worked for first
responders around the country to:

identify fundable projects

research qualified funders

assemble a realistic work plan
-
implement a grantseeking plan that generates
results.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
You may designate a substitute in writing any

processing fee. No refunds are given for

The conference will be held at the Sheraton
