The terrorist attacks against the United
States on September 11, 2001 clearly
demonstrated the interdependencies that
exist between physical and
cyber-infrastructures and how the
destruction or degradation of one can have a
catastrophic consequence on the other. In
the days and weeks that followed the
attacks, al-Qa'ida leader, Osama bin Laden,
praised the attacks not only for the human
losses, but also for the economic impact
that the destruction of electronic
infrastructure had on American companies and
the financial markets.
Further assessing the long-term
ramifications of the September 11th attacks
on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon
will take years, but in the short term at
least, it is clear that security is now
uppermost in the minds of government and
businesses.
September 11th showed how people,
infrastructure and technology are the three
primary ingredients of a functioning U.S.
economy in the 21st century. Remove any one
ingredient from the equation, and you cause
disruptions that have the ability to ripple
across many sectors of the economy,
eventually having the potential to impact
national security and/or public safety.
Recognizing how vulnerable power plants,
computer networks, oil facilities, and other
such entities are to the nation, officials
have been clamoring to better guard and
strengthen this infrastructure.
Homeland Defense Journal and IT*Security
Magazine are teaming up to provide you with
an integrated look at the issues surrounding
physical and cyber security. At this
conference you will learn state-of-the-art
approaches to defending these integrated,
critical infrastructures.
This conference will examine government
programs, new initiatives, funding to
implement and support new levels of physical
and cyber security to include:
-
Physical and cyber measures designed to
safeguard personnel
-
Prevention of unauthorized access to
equipment, installations, material, and
documents
-
Safeguards against espionage, sabotage,
damage, and theft
-
Threat, vulnerability analysis and
assessment
-
Deterrence, detection, delay, response,
recovery and mitigation.
This conference will help the government
security manager:
-
Save time and money in looking for
information and services
-
Reduce your risk through development and
implementation of a customized plan
-
Give you confidence that capital purchases
being made for your facility are linked
with an overall security and safety plan
-
