Keynote Presentation:
C.
Stewart Verdery, Jr.
Assistant Secretary, Border and Transportation Security
Policy and Planning
Department of Homeland Security |
About
This Conference
Border security involves all activities
that aim to prevent the entry of persons or materials that pose
a potential danger to the United States. This requires monitoring
of the United States' 328 ports of entry along the 7,500 miles
of land border that the United States shares with Canada and
Mexico, as well as along the 95,000 miles coastline.
Last year, DHS inherited the professional
workforce, programs and infrastructure of the Coast Guard, Customs
Service, Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the Transportation
Security Administration. Collectively these agencies are responsible
for protecting our nation's transportation systems and supervising
the entry of people and goods into the United States. This is
no easy task given that annually 730 million people travel on
commercial aircraft, there are 11.2 million trucks and 2.2 million
rail cars that cross into the US and 7,500 foreign flagships
make 51,000 calls in US ports. What is our government doing
to promote greater cooperation among border management agencies
and increased awareness about the persons and materials entering
and leaving the country? Attend Transportation and Border
Security to find out!
At this conference, you'll hear from the
executives involved in helping to secure those areas - ports,
rail, air, coast and roads. You'll learn more about US-VISIT,
whose purpose is to enhance the security of the United States
without slowing the system for legitimate visitors. And you'll
get the opportunity to learn from DHS, TSA, USCG, DOT, Customs
and Border Patrol, and others on what is being done to protect
the nation's borders and keep our methods of transportation
secure!

SpatialFX is a Java/J2EE
spatial toolkit for web-based deployments of highly dynamic
geospatial applications (Battlefield Visualization, Situational
Awareness, All-Source Analysis, MTI, etc.). SpatialFX supports
information input from various sources (Multi-INT, sensor platforms,
GPS feeds, databases) and places the results into a spatial
context, for visualization, analysis, and decision making. Disparate
data, static and/or dynamic, can be layered over geospatial
backdrops (vector maps, raster maps, or raster images). Users
can interactively interrogate the data to get more detailed
information. SpatialFX is especially useful in distributed environments,
where users want to see data and make decisions, without settling
for static web pages.
