About this Workshop:
What would your community do if faced with hundreds of residents reporting something
funny in their water and local health officials reporting a water related illness
outbreak? Is this a terrorist attack on your community or just an accidental water
contamination problem?
This two day workshop will prepare you to deal with such a situation using guidance
and tools that have been developed by EPA and other federal agencies since 9-11.
During day one participants will be provided an overview of EPA’s Water Emergency
Response Toolbox and other guidance for detecting and responding to possible water
contamination situations using Incident Command System concepts and principles.
During day two participants will be faced with residents reporting yellow water
in one neighborhood when the local health department calls to report a possible
water related illness outbreak. Soon after, other residents begin calling to report
something funny in their water. Using ICS concepts and principles, participants
will apply EPA guidance and public health epidemiological techniques in making decisions
to warn citizens to Don’t Drink the Water.
