About this Workshop:
The Best Practices for Disaster Communications workshop will look at some of the
best practices being deployed for the establishment and implementation of emergency
communications utilized during disasters.
Practices reviewed will include the use of terrestrial and satellite based communications
systems and networks, some examples of these include Radio Amateur Civil Emergency
Services (RACES), the Government Emergency Telecommunications System (GETS), the
SHared RESources High Frequency Radio Program (SHARES), Red Cross Emergency Communications,
Salvation Army Disaster Communications, Air Force Auxiliary/Civil Air Patrol radio
communications network, voice and data satellite communications systems along with
the selection and deployment of tactical VHF and UHF repeaters.
Also reviewed will be the newly released all hazards NIMS/ICS compliant Type III
Communications Unit Leader (COML) training and certification program and the development
of the all hazards NIMS/ICS compliant Communications Technician (COMT), Radio Operator
(RDO) and Communications Center Manager courses/programs.

CANCELLATION POLICY: You may designate a substitute in writing any time before the
event. Cancellation requests must be sent in writing (email or fax) and will be
subject to a $100 processing fee. No cancellations or transfers are accepted within
2 (two) weeks prior to the event start date or later. PLEASE NOTE: No shows will
be liable for the entire registration fee. In the rare occasion that an event is
cancelled or postponed, please note our reimbursement is limited to paid tuition
only.

Workshop Location:
The workshop will be held in the Homeland Defense Training & Publishing Training Center in the
Jefferson Plaza Building at 1421 Jefferson Davis Highway (7th floor), Arlington,
VA 22202. Public parking at the facility is available for $10.00 early morning special
(before 8:00am) or $18.00 all day. The Jefferson Plaza Building is just two blocks
from the Crystal City Metro Station on the blue and yellow line. Please note: the
parking garage is located on Crystal Drive.

which is connected to the Jefferson Plaza Two Building (where the Government Horizons
